A Bit More on Gerunds

Gerunds are so useful in English! See the earlier post for the basic grammar.

Note that gerunds are nouns, so can be used with pronouns like 'my', 'your', 'her', 'his' - possessive pronouns:

I always enjoy your singing.
My staying the night was not a problem.
His driving was a cause for concern.

However, in everyday conversation it is very common - and accepted - to use a gerund with a simple object pronoun:

I like him driving me to work.
I can't stand you biting your nails like that!
I regret you telling me that.
I don't mind them staying the night.

I look forward to you visiting us next year.
We would appreciate you arriving early for the meeting.
